UGC Teaching Awardees’ Sharing Seminar (2):
A Symphony for Promoting Holistic Development in University Students
Date 22 Jan 2019 (Tuesday)
Time 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Venue D1-LP-08, Tai Po Campus
Abstract

Psychosocial competences or “soft skills” are basic building blocks of holistic youth development. With the inception of the new 4-year undergraduate program, we developed a suite of four subjects (Tomorrow’s Leaders, Service Leadership, Promotion of Children and Adolescent Development, and Service Leadership through Serving Children and Families with Special Needs) to promote the leadership qualities and social responsibility of students. Our work can be regarded as a “symphony” involving the concerted effort of different members in this “orchestra”. Through different teaching and learning strategies and systematic evaluation findings, we have witnessed positive changes in our students.

Speaker Prof. Daniel Shek, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Professor Shek is Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programme), Chair Professor of Applied Social Sciences, and Li and Fung Professor in Service Leadership Education at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
