Presentation 1

Enhancing Student Learning through Social Justice Education: Conceptual Clarification, Learning and Teaching Methods
This sharing will present the implementation of a social justice education teaching and learning unit, which was designed and successfully delivered in two undergraduate General Education (GE) and BEd(P) General Studies courses during the academic year of 2017/2018. This sharing also aims at putting forward some suggestions of teaching social justice at the undergraduate level by disseminating the course evaluation and focus-group interview results, thus contributing to the social justice education (SJE) literature.

Speaker: Dr. Chong King Man Eric
Dr. Chong King Man Eric is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Social Sciences and the Head of Resource Centre for Interdisciplinary and Liberal Studies (FLASS). His career focuses on teaching and research about citizenship education, global citizenship, Liberal Studies, and General Studies in Hong Kong schools. He has been dedicated to both pre-service and in-service teachers’ training.

 

Presentation 2

Lessons Learned from Designing and Developing Online Learning Materials for HD (ECE) Students
We designed blended instruction for students of the Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education (HD(ECE)) by developing online learning materials combining online and face-to-face (F2F) learning elements and the results showed impacts on students’ learning. In this sharing session, the project investigators will share the journey of designinge-blended learning materials for teachers and students of the HD (ECE) as well as the teachers and students perceptions of an effective online learning environment. The results provided insights to teachers on how to improve the design of their online works and implementation strategies to meet the learning needs of students.

Speakers: Dr. CHAN Po Lin Pauline and Dr. NG Sau Man Catalina
Dr. CHAN Po Lin Pauline is the Senior Lecturer of the Department of Early Childhood Education at EDUHK. Her research interests include children’s emotional adjustment, the professional identity change of early childhood educators and children’s learning.

Dr. NG Sau Man Catalina is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education at EDUHK. She holds a PhD in Psychology from the Institute of Education, University of London. Prior to joining the university, she was trained as a health psychologist. Her research interests are diverse, including teacher education, parenting, workplace bullying, and child health.
