Developing Computational Thinking in the Pre-primary and Primary Education

In this presentation, Prof Kalas will reflect on the field of computational thinking (sometimes referred to as educational programming), which has recently regained a lot of attention – after the previous period of considerable enthusiasm in 80s and 90s within so-called Logo culture. This seminar will focus on (a) the concept of computational thinking for pre-primary and primary pupils, and (b) building appropriate software environments for these pupils. We always try to harness these environments as a vehicle for innovative educational research, which helps us better understand how educational programming provides new opportunities for pre-primary and primary pupils for learning and play, for exploring, expressing, and sharing.
