OCIO & LTTC News: Moodle 4.0 is Available in the Summer of 2023
The upgrade of Moodle from version 3.9 to 4.0 is underway. Starting from 2023/24, teachers and students can enjoy the many new features of the new Moodle system. The upgrade is aimed at improving the learning and teaching experiences with new contemporary theme and enhanced features.
Users can access new Summer semester of 2023/24 courses on the Moodle Y2023 website.

- Course Content Editing Made Easy
Instructors can easily edit and navigate course content with a redesigned set of content icons, improved drag-and-drop feature, collapsible content and a new full-screen option.- Timed Assignments (User Guide)
Instructors can create timed assignments to give students a specific amount of time to complete their work.- Improved Quiz Question Bank Management (User Guide)
Instructors can manage quiz question status as ready to use or keep as a draft individually, see the changes history of each question, and leave comments on questions.- Online Feedback to Assignments with PDF Annotation (User Guide)
Instructors can add comments, drawings and stamps directly on the students’ submissions online without downloading the files.- New Course Navigation Menu
With a navigation menu on course pages, instructors can easily switch between courses and navigate course content and features conveniently.Highlights for students:

OCIO & LTTC News: Moodle 4.0 Available in the Summer of 2023
The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC) are working on the upgrade of Moodle from version 3.9 to 4.0. Starting from the Summer semester of 2023, users can enjoy the many new features of the new Moodle system.
The upgrade is aimed at improving the learning and teaching experiences with new and enhanced features, which include:
- A new contemporary theme with new activity icons for instructors and students to navigate the site and course content more easily.
- Quiz, assignment and grading functions get better, allowing instructors to assign timed assignments and annotate students’ PDF assignments.
- Students can focus more on learning and easily prioritise their coursework on the improved course site and rejuvenated dashboard and timeline.
New Moodle workshops, video tutorials and user guides will be offered in the coming months. Please stay tuned!
