Enforcement of MFA on Functional Accounts on 12 Jan 2025 (Sun) (Repost)

For better protection and to prevent unauthorised access, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using Microsoft Authenticator will be enforced on all functional accounts on 12 Jan 2025. Users have to set up MFA on or after 12 Jan 2025 or they will not be able to access designated services. Owners of functional accounts please see the relevant procedures sent via email.

OCIO is gradually migrating all web and app services to Microsoft’s SSO service with MFA to enhance security and will retire the in-house SSO system in 2025. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact IT Help Desk at 2948 6601 or helpdesk@ocio.eduhk.hk.

Migration of Moodle to Microsoft’s SSO Service on 12 Jan 2025 (Sun)

Following the migration of The Portal and other information systems to Microsoft’s single sign-on (SSO) service in mid-Dec 2024, OCIO will transition Moodle to the same service from 8:00am to 1:00pm on 12 Jan 2025 (Sun). During the said period, users may be prompted to log in again. Please follow the procedures on screen.

After the migration, users will need to log in to Moodle with their email addresses (i.e. username@eduhk.hk for staff and sxxxxxxx@s.eduhk.hk for students) through Microsoft with multi-factor authentication. OCIO is gradually migrating all web and app services to Microsoft’s SSO service to enhance security and better protect user accounts from unauthorised access and will retire the in-house SSO system in 2025.

Suspension of Moodle and Turnitin services

To enhance stability and performance, Moodle and Turnitin services will be suspended for the migration of the Single Sign-on System on Dec 22, 2024 (Sun) from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Migration of the Single Sign-On System to Microsoft’s SSO Service

To enhance security and streamline the sign-on process for our online services, OCIO is gradually migrating the in-house single sign-on (SSO) system to Microsoft’s SSO service. This transition is designed to better protect user accounts and prevent unauthorised access. Once migrated, users will need to log in with their email address (i.e. username@eduhk.hk for staff and sxxxxxxx@s.eduhk.hk for students) through Microsoft with multi-factor authentication.

 

In the first phase, access to The Portal and most information systems and services, except e-SIS, AMIS, etc, will be migrated from 5:30pm to 6:30pm on 17 Dec 2024 (Tue), while access to Moodle will be migrated from 8:00am to 1:00pm on 22 Dec 2024 (Sun). During the said periods, users may be prompted to log in again. Please follow the procedures on screen.

  • Students can focus more on learning and easily prioritise their coursework on the improved course site and rejuvenated dashboard and timeline.

New Moodle Launched for Summer 2024

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Moodle platform for the Summer semester of 2024-25, designed to deliver an enhanced experience for both staff and students. This major upgrade to Moodle 4.1 introduces a fresh look and feel, making navigation easier and more intuitive. Additionally, there are significant improvements to the functionality and capacity, enhancing the overall user experience.

 

The new Moodle 2024 (https://moodley2024.eduhk.hk) will host all courses starting from the Summer semester of 2024-25, while the existing Moodle 2023 will continue to host courses from the last semester up until June 2024. We believe these updates will greatly improve your teaching and learning experience.

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC) are working on the upgrade of Moodle from version 3.9 to 4.0. Starting from the Summer semester of 2023, users can enjoy the many new features of the new Moodle system.

 

The upgrade is aimed at improving the learning and teaching experiences with new and enhanced features, which include:

  • A new contemporary theme with new activity icons for instructors and students to navigate the site and course content more easily.
  • Quiz, assignment and grading functions get better, allowing instructors to assign timed assignments and annotate students’ PDF assignments.
  • Students can focus more on learning and easily prioritise their coursework on the improved course site and rejuvenated dashboard and timeline.

New Moodle workshops, video tutorials and user guides will be offered in the coming months. Please stay tuned!

New Moodle Launched for Summer 2024

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Moodle platform for the Summer semester of 2024-25, designed to deliver an enhanced experience for both staff and students. This major upgrade to Moodle 4.1 introduces a fresh look and feel, making navigation easier and more intuitive. Additionally, there are significant improvements to the functionality and capacity, enhancing the overall user experience.

 

The new Moodle 2024 (https://moodley2024.eduhk.hk) will host all courses starting from the Summer semester of 2024-25, while the existing Moodle 2023 will continue to host courses from the last semester up until June 2024. OCIO & LTTC News: Moodle 4.0 Available in the Summer of 2023

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC) are working on the upgrade of Moodle from version 3.9 to 4.0. Starting from the Summer semester of 2023, users can enjoy the many new features of the new Moodle system.

 

The upgrade is aimed at improving the learning and teaching experiences with new and enhanced features, which include:

  • A new contemporary theme with new activity icons for instructors and students to navigate the site and course content more easily.
  • Quiz, assignment and grading functions get better, allowing instructors to assign timed assignments and annotate students’ PDF assignments.
  • Students can focus more on learning and easily prioritise their coursework on the improved course site and rejuvenated dashboard and timeline.

New Moodle workshops, video tutorials and user guides will be offered in the coming months. Please stay tuned!
