Abstract

In this talk we will report on the progress of the CRAC project 03ABL, “Improving QA&E by Predicting Student Performance Using Data Analytics”.

The original objectives of the project are (for reasonably sized programmes at this University):

  • Using data analytics methods identify factors that may affect students’ performances at graduation based on data collected at admission, at the end of first year study and other relevant sources;
  • Based on findings in (i) identify students who may be at risk before the end of their studies. (Extended objective: The relevant programme leaders will then be alerted and interventions may be provided by the programmes to help those students who are identified to be at-risk.)
  • A similar objective is also considered for selected courses with reasonable sizes.

 We will share the results and challenges that the project team has encountered; the implications for QA&E as well as the way forward.
