Abstract
Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has been heralded as a transformative technology with significant impact for education. Despite many promising examples of the use of GenAI in education, implications of GenAI on the development and use of human skills are still insufficiently understood. This talk addresses this gap by outlining the current landscape of GenAI in education and exploring its influence on human skills development. The talk will then show existing evidence on the impact of GenAI on such human skills as self-regulated learning, information problem solving, and collaboration. The talk will conclude with promising directions for future research and practice to address pressing issues for learning and teaching in the age of AI. The talk draw on recent findings of several research studies and implementation cases around the world.
