Introduction
As its name suggests, a blockchain groups information into blocks which are in turn linked together. The blockchain technology has provided a new way for distributing information in a secure and decentralized manner. This technology, furthermore, has inspired various new applications. Smart contracts, for example, enable automatic execution of agreements on a blockchain when prescribed conditions are met. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are implemented using the blockchain technology, can help to verify the uniqueness of an item (such as a piece of digital artwork).
Developing literacy towards these new technologies is crucial in preparing us for the future society and getting us ready to explore their potential applications in our own area of expertise.
Workshop: Introduction to Blockchain Technology and NFT
This workshop aims at helping participants to understand concepts related to blockchain, smart contracts and NFT. Participants will be given opportunities to have hands-on experience of how these technologies work and to reflect on the corresponding risks.
Workshop Content
The workshop starts with an introduction to blockchain before concentrating on its specific applications (such as Non-Fungible Tokens, namely NFTs) created via smart contracts. Students will be exposed to real-world examples of how smart contracts are used, so they can get an intuitive sense of the technology. The workshop will introduce to the participants the main types of blockchain as well as related concepts like gas fees, nonces, and tokens in order to provide them with an overview of the blockchain industry. A series of hands-on activities will provide an initial experience and understanding of how NFT trading platform works as well as arousing awareness of the risk when using NFT trading platform.
