Abstract

Presentation 1

Establishing a new corpus-based language pedagogy for pre-service and pre-service English teachers: strategies and research potential

In the past few years, Dr Angel Ma and her team at the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies have established a new corpus-based language pedagogy (CBLP). This innovative CBLP features inductive, data-driven and interactive learning, aiming to help students become independent language learners. This seminar will share some useful strategies on how to implement CBLP in training pre-service teachers from undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as in-service teachers from professional development programmes at EdUHK and beyond. Establishing and promoting CBLP has also brought great research potential for the teacher-researcher.

Presentation 2

Using AI Chatbot to provide personalized feedback and enhance learning support

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help to provide personalized feedback to students to meet their diverse needs and provide an adaptive learning environment. One-on-one individualized tutoring can help to provide specific study tips to enhance students’ learning performance and experience, but it is unpractical in traditional setting. Using AI chatbot as intelligent tutor can help to provide timely feedback and personalized advice for students based on their real-time learning progress. Besides, this approach can help teachers to reduce repetitive tasks and identify common learning problems.
