A Visit from IPRRFSS 2024 Research Postgraduate Student Delegation

[Hong Kong, July 11, 2024] A group of research postgraduate students attending the International Postgraduate Roundtable and Research Forum Cum Summer School (IPRRFSS) 2024 visited the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC). The IPRRFSS 2024 was organised by the Graduate School (GS). LTTC colleagues shared EdUHK’s teaching and learning strategies and innovative technologies in higher education with the delegation.

Dr CHENG Kwok Shing Gary, Executive Co-Director of the LTTC warmly welcomed the visitors. The visit commenced at the AI Education Lab (E-1/F-07), where the visitors delved into LTTC Large Language Model (LLM) Studio’s recent work.

LTTC colleagues briefly introduced two past workshops on LLM applications in education at introductory and intermediate levels, their main contents, and their design of hands-on activities. They also demonstrated the newly launched LTTC LLM Studio Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform, a low-threshold solution for educators to create customised LLM-empowered workflows. This platform allows users to build their own workflows with various LLMs and self-curated vectorised datasets and deploy and publish them as web pages or application programming interfaces (APIs). During engaging discussions with LTTC colleagues, visitors exchanged ideas on integrating LLM into educational contexts.

Subsequently, the visitors went to the Metaverse Education Lab (E-P-12), immersing themselves in various metaverse spaces and game-based learning environments developed by LTTC. The metaverse’s interactive scenarios and gamified learning designs captivated the visitors, emphasising creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative learning experiences.

The delegation also visited the Video Production Room, where they tried out the one-touch video recording system. This system can produce high-quality videos with professional lighting, a chroma-key green screen, a wireless microphone, mixers, and a pan-tilt-zoom camera. The facility supports the university’s various e-learning needs by enabling easy video content creation.
